In this session, Senior Instructor AbdelFattah Hosney demonstrates the physical teardown, diode-check testing, and gate firing signal tracing on a Siemens Sinamics S120 / ABB ACS880 Active Front End (AFE) drive module powering a 1600 HP triplex mud pump.

  • Measure IGBT forward voltage drop (0.3V - 0.7V threshold).
  • Trace 1200V DC bus capacitor charging curve.
  • Detect desaturation fault triggers under simulated load.
  • Execute zero-energy LOTO verification prior to enclosure access.
